What can I ask Claude?

Start with a question about your business. Ask how a figure was calculated. Ordinary supplies the definition and any limits for its report metrics. See what you can ask about.

Illustrative figures

Is Meta or Google giving us the better return?

Google. For every $1 spent, Google brought in $2.60 in Shopify sales and Meta brought in $1.90. Meta’s retargeting campaign returned $3.40, but its two prospecting campaigns returned less than $1.

Did October’s sales drop come from new or returning customers?

October net sales fell 7% from September. Sales to first-time customers accounted for almost all of the drop. Sales to returning customers held steady.

How many customers came back within 90 days?

About 21% placed a second order within 90 days of their first. That figure only includes customers whose first order was at least 90 days ago.

Which products sold the most units last month?

The starter kit led with 1,100 units, followed by the refill pack with 840. Together they accounted for about a third of all units sold.

What it covers

Which Ordinary reports can I use?

Claude can use the reports, connected accounts and date range available on your Ordinary plan.

  • Ads and attribution

Compare the return Meta and Google report for each campaign with the return Ordinary calculates from Shopify orders. On Meta, you can also see spend and attributed orders by ad set or ad. Compare channels under your chosen attribution model.

  • Customers and retention

See how many customers buy again within 90, 180, 365 or 730 days. On plans with Cohorts, compare acquisition cost and customer lifetime value by first-order channel.

  • Sales and returns

Compare net sales, total sales, discounts and returns by shipping country or by new and returning customers. Refunded tax and shipping are shown separately, as in Shopify’s Sales report.

  • Store and products

Check orders and average order value, rank products by units or revenue, or look up a specific order or customer.

  • A/B tests

See how each version performed and whether Ordinary has enough evidence to call a winner.

  • Amazon

See sales, units, sessions, Sponsored Products spend and estimated payout when Amazon is connected.

What can Claude access?

You choose whether to give Claude access. It can read reports from eligible stores you belong to. It can’t change your orders, edit ads or spend money.

Customer details

Ordinary masks customer email addresses and phone numbers. Order and customer lookups can still return names and purchase details. Order tags, customer tags and refund notes are excluded.

Where your data goes

When Claude reads data from Ordinary, it goes to Anthropic, the company that runs Claude, and is handled under your own agreement with Anthropic. Ordinary sends it only when someone on your team asks, keeps a record of which reports were read, by whom and when, and doesn't control how Anthropic stores or uses it. Ask for customer-level details only when you need them.

Frequently asked

Which Ordinary plans include the Claude connection?

Available on all paid Ordinary plans, including Starter, Advanced and Enterprise.

Which Claude accounts can connect?

Claude Free allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, a workspace owner may need to add Ordinary for you.

Does it work in Claude Desktop and Claude Code?

Yes. Sign in with the Claude account you used to add Ordinary. If you use Claude Code with an API key, follow the terminal instructions in the setup guide.

Which store will Claude use?

Name the store in your question or ask Claude to list the stores you can query. Your Ordinary sign-in gives you access to reports for each store you belong to on a paid plan.

Can it change my store or ad campaigns?

No. Ordinary gives Claude read-only access. It can look up figures and order details. It cannot edit orders, change ad budgets or start a campaign through Ordinary.

What customer details can it read?

Ordinary masks customer email addresses and phone numbers before sharing results. If you look up an order or a customer, the results can include names and purchase details. Ordinary excludes order tags, customer tags and refund notes.

Why do two reports show different sales figures?

Ask Claude how each figure was calculated. For example, returns count on the refund date in the Sales report. The Overview chart shows order totals before refunds.

How do I disconnect?

Open Ordinary in Claude’s connector settings and disconnect it. If you added Ordinary from the terminal, use the removal command in the setup guide.

Using ChatGPT too?

The same connection works with ChatGPT. Each person connects their own assistant with their own Ordinary sign-in, and sees the same numbers.
